Yes, Mother!

When I was growing-up - my mother had a real bee in her bonnet about posture.

And if she caught me walking with even a hint of a slump - I'd get a thump.

She'd say: "Deborah - throw those shoulders back and stick your chest out."

I'd respond: "I would, if I had a chest to stick out."

She'd shoot back: "Then pretend you do!"

(Ha! Pretend I do? This should be interesting. But I did it, none-the-less.)

"Yes, Mother!", was my dutiful reply.

So to this day I'm mindful of how important my posture is.

Not just my physical stance - but my particular approach and attitude with people.

As an example, the way I choose to conduct myself as a small business owner.

I position myself in a non-threatening, positive and helpful way.

(...the friendly, "I could be your solution" stance.)

This is the kind of proper posture I'm all about now.

Surely mom would be proud.

Pesky Blind Spots

Guess what?

We’ve got blind spots.

They’re not just limited to drivers.

Every one has ‘em.

We also have psychological blind spots.

And they can be quite troublesome.

The fact of the matter is -

...we all have parts of ourselves we just don’t see –

…or we refuse to see.

Our egos tend to blind us to these pesky spots.

(…and some are more blatant than others.)

It’s another reason we need each other.

When we help identify each other’s blind spots

…we help each other grow.

And when we acknowledge what we tend to be blind to –

…we accept a better way forward.

What are some of the blind spots you've been warned about?

Electronic Serendipity

Technology has changed every thing -

...especially the amount of time we have to interact face to face.

For example;

...even the small town serendipity some of us once enjoyed, is now less frequent.

Most of us seem to prefer to reach-out and interact through our modern devices.

But, we can still build trust and some relational intimacy -

 ...through electronic communication.

And we can still create opportunities for serendipity

…through being in community with each other, where ever we are.

It's what I call electronic serendipity.

(But I think it's actually known as 'SerenDipfy'!)

Fun Fact: Serendipity - Origin:
1754 - Coined by Horace Walpole, suggested by The Three Princes of Serendip, the title of a fairy tale in which the heroes ‘were always making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity, of things they were not in quest of’.

What kind of 'serendipity' do you like to experience the most?

Connecting The Dots

When I was younger - I used to love to tackle my 'dot to dot' exercises.

They were easy and they were fun.

And although I outgrew these particular puzzles- they taught me something.

Connecting the dots revealed what I needed to see and better understand.

These exercises were a constructive way to find the bigger picture.

And it got me thinking.

As a person, friend, colleague and a small business owner -

...meeting needs is key.

And we can't meet needs if we don't connect the dots.

The fact of the matter is -

...with all the 24/7 data we're inundated with now, it's a great way to pull a picture into view.

What dots do you need to connect?
