It’s time to big-up Susan
Berkley. She doesn’t know this, but she was part of my 'virtual' VO beginnings,
so I’ve been longing to give her an official + affectionate Debby Barnes Voice-Over Rah-Rah!
Besides being one of the most listened to voices in America;
(…she’s the voice of AT&T and Citibank) Susan is the gracious, personable
and huge-hearted veteran Voice Over Talent, Author, Teacher/Coach and CEO of: The Great Voice Company ‘How The World Hears You’. She’s easy to
credit because
she has a give-back mentality that’s undeniable; she’s all about helping others
succeed. This savvy lady is passionate about standing alongside those who are
keen to develop a VO success strategy that works. That’s why she set about
developing resources other potential VOT’s can take advantage of through her
Great Voice Company.
Fun
facts: "Susan was briefly married to a rock star and is a
kick-ass vegetarian cook. Although born in the USA, she speaks fluent Brazilian
Portuguese. She was a cast member on the Howard Stern Show - and the beleagured traffic reporter whom he
affectionately called "Susan Bezerkowitz.” Her voice has been featured on
hundreds of broadcast and non-broadcast productions including promos for
Lifetime, The Travel Channel and CNBC." So
cool!
Though I haven’t had the opportunity to meet Susan yet, I do
read her VO articles with interest. And one of her recent entries “Do You Know Your Voice Over Niche?” is
choice.
She
hooks the reader straight-away by stating: “The
WHO is more important than the WHAT.” This success message is one she
encourages us to print-out in big bold letters and tape to our walls. Why? She says: “It amazes me that many new and emerging voice talent
never give a second thought to who they’ll ultimately be selling to.” Because without
someone specific to buy your voice over services you have a pipe dream not a
business.” What a fair dose of reality!
Susan
wisely reminds us that: “This is the age
of specialization. As a voice over specialist you can charge more because you
bring expertise and a targeted solution to a specific group of customers.” Yes…true.
To be YOU-niquely YOU and find the WHO you’re going to be selling to. Agreed!
I value you + your views, so let's communicate!
And don't be shy, stop by.
