Pressing-In & Pressing-On

Keeping our eyes on a victorious vision sure does help.

Holding our ‘torch’ with a steely determination is equally important.

Pressing-in and pressing-on is vital…

…because it reaps results!

‘I press on toward the goal to win the prize…’   Phil. 3:14 NIV

What new goal do you need to press-on toward?

It's All About Presence

It’s more than just an annual commemoration.

It’s more than a widely observed cultural holiday.

And it’s more than traditional trees, gifts, gatherings and great food.

It’s much more.

It's all about Presence.

Emmanuel Presence.

God's love With Us.

Manger Baby loves you and me.

Love Always...Always Love.

Hallelujah!

Good Counsel

Do you covet sound advice?

I do.

And I usually follow it too.

It saves me a lot of frustrating indecision.

If what I hear makes sense and it’s relative to what I’m trying to achieve, I use it.

I’m so pleased there are lots of kind people out there willing to offer good counsel -

…and share their tips.

Kinda like Lucy Van Peltz only better!

A Charlie Brown Christmas - 1965

What helpful tip or sound advice have you used recently?

Great All 'Round

It’s time to big-up Susan Berkley. She doesn’t know this, but she was part of my 'virtual' VO beginnings, so I’ve been longing to give her an official + affectionate Debby Barnes Voice-Over Rah-Rah!

Besides being one of the most listened to voices in America; (…she’s the voice of AT&T and Citibank) Susan is the gracious, personable and huge-hearted veteran Voice Over Talent, Author, Teacher/Coach and CEO of: The Great Voice Company ‘How The World Hears You’. She’s easy to credit because she has a give-back mentality that’s undeniable; she’s all about helping others succeed. This savvy lady is passionate about standing alongside those who are keen to develop a VO success strategy that works. That’s why she set about developing resources other potential VOT’s can take advantage of through her Great Voice Company.

Fun facts: "Susan was briefly married to a rock star and is a kick-ass vegetarian cook. Although born in the USA, she speaks fluent Brazilian Portuguese. She was a cast member on the Howard Stern Show -  and the beleagured traffic reporter whom he affectionately called "Susan Bezerkowitz.” Her voice has been featured on hundreds of broadcast and non-broadcast productions including promos for Lifetime, The Travel Channel and CNBC." So cool!

Though I haven’t had the opportunity to meet Susan yet, I do read her VO articles with interest. And one of her recent entries “Do You Know Your Voice Over Niche?” is choice.

She hooks the reader straight-away by stating: “The WHO is more important than the WHAT.” This success message is one she encourages us to print-out in big bold letters and tape to our walls. Why? She says: It amazes me that many new and emerging voice talent never give a second thought to who they’ll ultimately be selling to.” Because without someone specific to buy your voice over services you have a pipe dream not a business.”  What a fair dose of reality!

Susan wisely reminds us that: “This is the age of specialization. As a voice over specialist you can charge more because you bring expertise and a targeted solution to a specific group of customers.” Yes…true. To be YOU-niquely YOU and find the WHO you’re going to be selling to. Agreed!

So if you need to get a better sense of your VO niche, read her short message below to be in-the-know. And Rah-Rah! this great all 'round lady along with me.

One Head. Many Hats!

When we’re not caught-up in working our magic behind the mic;

We’re listening -

We're learning -

We’re editing -

We’re sending -

We’re networking -

We're marketing -

We're calling -

We’re reading -

We’re blogging -

We’re researching -

We’re writing -

We’re google+ing -

We’re tweeting -

We're linking in -

We’re conferencing -

We’re exhausted, but it feels good!

Did I miss a 'hat'?

Happily Giving Thanks!

It’s one of the easiest things to bow our heads and do.

Giving thanks should be like breathing for me and for you.

Our abundance is something to be continually grateful for.

We’re here, we’re alive, and we’re loved, if nothing more.

D. A. Barnes

Join me in happily giving thanks for ‘our daily bread’ and each other!

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. 1 Chronicles 16:34

Intoxicating Scents

The nose knows.

(Well mine certainly does!)

And after breathing-in the intoxicating scents of Upstate New York in the Fall,

I was reminded of how sentimental I get at this time of year.

Autumn is magic. It's my favourite season.

It's colourful, it's fragrant, it's nostalgic and it has an uncanny effect on me.

From falling-leaves, pumpkins and apple cider to pine trees, maple syrup and log fires;

I found myself sighing gratefully from one day to the next.

And when I walked the trails of Beaver Lake's enchanted forest...

...my senses were exploding and I was giving thanks.

I was also whispering a Rah-Rah! and writing another Sunday SideLines just for you.

What kinds of scents move you?

Fully Enhanced!

No. I don’t mean the kind of enhancement most of us visualize. (Or is this just me?)

I’m thinking in terms of modern technology.

When we take advantage of the educational information at our fingertips;

we can be –

…enlightened
…improved
…increased
…and strengthened.

We can get the personal + professional boost we need, when we need it.

And the good news?

Most of what we need is free.

So here’s to fully enhancing ourselves!

Though there are many ways to enhance yourself, my fav is:

I value you and what you have to say, so let's communicate!

Just Imagine...

Think it – and think it big.

See it – and see it clearly.

Create it – and create it now.

Brave your imagination.

It’s your dream, so go all out.

Just imagine it.

Now make it happen.

I dare you!

So where will you imagine, create + inspire this week?
